Porquerolles island

Porquerolles est la plus importante des îles composant l'archipel, celle qui se situe le plus à l'Ouest. Elle s'étend sur 7 km de long et 2,5 Km de large. D'une superficie de 1254 ha, l'île culmine au sémaphore à 142 m.

Son relief s'ordonne autour de 5 petits chaînons orientés nord-sud et s'ouvre sur sa face septentrionale par de larges plage de sable : Notre Dame, La Courtade, la Plage d'Argent, le Port où plaisanciers et visiteurs viennent y vivre des heures paisibles.

Porquerolles is the largest of the islands in the archipelago and is the most westerly of the islands. It is 7 km long and 2.5 Km wide and has a surface area of 1254 hectares and culminates in a lighthouse at 142 m.

The island comprises 5 small ranges of hills in a north-south direction and opens up on the northern side into wide sandy beaches: Notre Dame, La Courtade, Plage d'Argent, and the port where sailors and visitors alike can come to have a good time.

Its relief spreads around 5 small chains facing North-South and opens to large sandy beaches; Notre Dame, La Courtade, La Plage d’Argent and the Port where visitors and sailing boats spend many pleasant hours.

 

A botanical conservatory

 

Créé en 1979, le conservatoire Botanique de Porquerolles, devenu national en 1990, gère 180 ha de terres agricoles, stocke 2000 gènes de plantes d'espèces sauvages, collectionne des espèces rares, sauvages ou endémiques d'arbres fruitiers, figuiers, fruits à noyau, agrumes...(parrainage de la Fondation TOTAL).

Porquerolles, véritable paradis au printemps lors de la floraison du maquis (cisites, myrtes, bruyères arborescentes, ficoîdes), se métamorphose en un immense bouquet embaumé.

Quant au village, il a su conserver son caractère typique, apporté lors de sa construction. Aujourd'hui, nous pouvons y trouver tous les services et commerces utiles.

It manages 180 hectares of agricultural land, stores 2000 plant genes of wild species, has a collection of rare wild or endemic species of fruit trees, fig trees, stone fruit, citruses...(sponsored by the TOTAL foundation).

Porquerolles is a veritable paradise in the spring when the bushes come into bloom (cisites, myrtles, white heath, ficoids) turning the island into an immense scented bouquet.

The village has kept its typical character from the time it was built, while today all the services and shops that might be needed can be found.

L'île se visite à pieds, ou à vélo, en famille ou en groupe. Plusieurs sentiers de randonnée sont à découvrir, vous pouvez vous procurer le guide "balades en Provence d'Azur" à la Maison du Tourisme de la Provence d'Azur - Tél 04 94 01 84 40.
L'île propose tout un ensemble de prestations : locations de vélos, activités nautiques, accastillage, produits de terroir, shopping... A découvrir au cours de votre séjour.

EXISTANT

The island offers a whole range of services: bicycle hire, nautical activities, sale of boat fittings, local produce, shopping... all to be discovered during your stay.
